Folk Witchcraft, Folklore, Herbalism And Sustainable Living.

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Diary Of A Folk Witch, a living witchcraft platform for ALL!
Are you looking to learn more about British and Irish folk witchcraft, folklore and modern wise folk skills, but not entirely sure where to start?
Perhaps you’re new to your path and looking to explore it further in a safe and informative environment? Or maybe you’re an experienced Occultist and looking to find genuine content on Folk Witchcraft that is neither ‘fluffy’ or watered down?

Well, you have come to the right place!

My name is Zanna, and I gladly invite you to join me on my path as a Folk Witch, Wise Woman and Priestess, living in the North of England.
Here, I will share with you my life as a wise woman and doula, the folkloric and herbal research I carry out, along with my folk witch practices.
Through a blend of informative posts and diary entries, I open the door that welcomes you into my very own world of every day authentic folk witchery, herbalism, and the study of native folklore.

On this site, I primarily discuss practices related to my own region of the North West of England (particularly, Lancashire). However, I do also branch further afield to the rest of Britain, and at times also, Ireland. As much of my family are from Ireland, I am a student of Gaeilge (Irish language), work closely with the goddess Brigid, and also hope to move back to Ireland, with my family one day.
Therefore, Irish culture, history and spirituality also features heavily within my personal practice.

My work covers some of the following topics:

Diary Of A Folk Witch Entries.
Folk Witchcraft.
Divination.
Spirits of the land.
Connecting with ones own local landscape and its history.
Folklore of Britain and Ireland.
Ancestral Veneration.
Animism.
Kitchen Witchcraft.
Folk Ways & Urban Homesteading
Herbs, Healing, Foraging And Plant Lore.
Spells, workings and rituals.
Witchcraft History.

As well as this, I often hold talk and workshops, both in person and online!

It is my sincere hope that you enjoy exploring this website, podcasts, the YouTube channel, and also through my articles (which can be found in Pagan Dawn magazine) while walking through the world of modern Folk Witchcraft with me.

Through the time, mists, and distance between us, blessings from me to you.

There are many documented examples of traditional blood staunching charms that were used by Charmers, Pellars and Folk Witches alike here in both the British and Celtic isles. Folklore And Spirits Of The Land Series: The Demon Pig Of Winwick And The Use Of Apotropaic Masonry In Lancashire Churches.

One thing I have noticed about Lancashire church art, that makes it stand out from other English counties, is how often churches do in fact incorporate apotropaic symbols and art in order to protect its holy sites. The Grimoire Series: Granny’s Curtains.

The act of washing ones curtains (nets in particular) was seen as a way of protecting ones home from the evil eye (and in extension, curses), illness and everyday voyeurism. To keep your windows clean and the curtains too was seen as not only as protective, but also that you and your family were respectable

Folklore And Spirits Of The Land Series: Ghosts

I have often wondered if one of the reasons hauntings have become more and more documented since the mid eighteen hundreds is because British culture heavily shifted during the Victorian era. Not only was this period the height of culture, arts, new technology and industrialisation, it was also a dawn of new, more educated and…
